Morristown — During the Jan. 14 Morristown Town Council meeting, Council Member Kristi Langkabel moved that Town Attorney Briane House prepare and present a written legal opinion on his findings and knowledge regarding the Waste Management landfill expansion. The motion was seconded by Larry Tracy and passed 5-0.
The council also designated Council Member Ralph Henderson to call the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) for an update on the public hearing related to the landfill expansion. The minutes record the request for the attorney’s written opinion but do not include technical findings, timelines from IDEM, or any substantive content of the attorney’s review.
Town Attorney Briane House provided a brief update on income tax during the same meeting, but the minutes do not record a substantive legal analysis about the landfill expansion. The council’s action directs the town attorney to produce a written opinion; that analysis will be the record of legal findings and may inform any future council action or comment to IDEM.
No motions adopting ordinances, resolutions or other regulatory actions concerning the landfill were recorded; the council’s action is limited to requesting legal advice and contacting IDEM for a public-hearing update.
