Pima sets May 23 pool ribbon-cutting, picks town sign design and advances General Plan draft

The Pima Town Council on April 14 recommended a town sign design, set a ribbon-cutting for pool renovations, scheduled a budget work session and supported moving the town’s General Plan draft forward.
Manager Vernon Batty presented a quote from CMI for a 12-by-20 sign and mock-ups created by Melissa Smith and Marley Grant. The council recommended the option that displays “PIMA” in white lettering. Batty also said Chris Smith offered to fund a sign placement recognizing the high school boys’ basketball team.
Batty proposed a ribbon-cutting to celebrate the pool renovations on opening day, Saturday, May 23, 2026; he said he is coordinating with Chamber representative Vance Bryce on plans for the event. The Chamber’s palm card also lists a laundromat grand opening on May 14.
Cat Sticklin of Wreaths Across America asked the council for a donation to support wreath placement; Batty said the request will be considered as part of next fiscal year’s budget deliberations.
The council also scheduled a Budget Work Session for Thursday, May 7, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. and recommended moving the Planning & Zoning Board’s General Plan draft forward in the adoption process. Mayor Brian Paull tabled a separate proposed IGA with Pima Schools (Resolution 2026-02) for adjustments before the next meeting.
Next steps: staff will coordinate the pool ribbon-cutting logistics with the Chamber, return the revised school IGA at a future meeting and include the wreaths request in budget planning.
