The Pima Town Council voted unanimously April 14 to prepare a letter of support for expanded ambulance service in Graham County after hearing from Mount Graham Regional Medical Center.
Danny Smith, representing Mount Graham Regional Medical Center, told the council the hospital is seeking a Certificate of Necessity to begin additional ambulance service in Graham County and asked the town to submit a supportive letter. "We are seeking a Certificate of Necessity to begin additional ambulance service in Graham County," Smith said during the council meeting.
Vice Mayor Teresa Bailey moved to approve drafting the letter of support; Mayor Brian Paull seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The council did not attach conditions to the motion during the meeting.
The decision is procedural: the council's vote authorizes staff to prepare the letter of support, which the town manager will finalize and submit according to the timeline determined by Mount Graham Regional Medical Center and county processes. No funding or further formal commitments were recorded in the meeting minutes.
Next steps: staff will prepare the letter for the mayor's signature and submit it as requested by Mount Graham Regional Medical Center.
