Commissioners hold first reading to rezone 1.11 acres for NorthPointe/Force Holdings

The Bartholomew County Commissioners on June 1 conducted the first reading of Ordinance No. 2026-04, a proposed amendment to the county zoning map that would rezone 1.11 acres of a 68.25-acre parcel from I2c (Industrial: General with Commitments) to CR (Commercial: Regional).
Assistant Planning Director Melissa Begley told the board the larger subject parcel contains roughly 68.25 acres — about 38 acres wooded and about 29 acres in agricultural tillable land — and that the rezoning applies only to a 1.11-acre portion so that it can be platted with an adjoining 9.73-acre vacant lot north of Riviera Maya. Begley said the newly platted CR parcel would have frontage along U.S. 31 but will be accessed from an internal street and a right-in-only access point on U.S. 31. She also noted the Plan Commission previously approved the NorthPointe Major Subdivision preliminary plat (SUB-26-18).
Commissioner Carl H. Lienhoop opened the floor for public comment and closed it when no one spoke. Commissioner Larry S. Kleinhenz moved to approve the first reading as presented; Commissioner Lienhoop seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Because this was a first reading, final action will be decided at a subsequent meeting after required notice and any further hearings.
