Jenkinsburg council adopts polling-place code change, denies law firm demand and authorizes firetruck repairs

The Jenkinsburg City Council on July 14 adopted an amendment to the city code governing polling places, denied an anti-litem demand from law firm Morgan & Morgan and authorized submission of an insurance claim to repair the city’s firetruck, the council recorded in its minutes.
Mayor Eddie Ford called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and a quorum was present. Council Member Gary Roberts moved to adopt the meeting agenda; Gary Brown seconded and the motion carried. Council Member Gary Brown gave the invocation and Mayor Eddie Ford led the pledge.
The ordinance vote came as Council Member Gary Brown moved to adopt JBGO-25-01, an amendment to Section 2-18 of the Code of Ordinances concerning the city’s polling place; Mayor Pro-Tem Jason Watts seconded. The council voted in favor and the ordinance was adopted as presented.
In a separate action, Council moved into executive session with City Attorney Kent Lawrence to discuss possible litigation and later returned to open session. After returning, Mayor Pro-Tem Jason Watts moved to deny an anti-litem demand notice dated June 16, 2025 from the law firm Morgan & Morgan and authorized the city attorney to relay that denial to the firm; Gary Roberts seconded and the motion passed.
The council also voted to authorize submission of an insurance claim to the city’s insurer to obtain necessary repairs to the municipal firetruck so it can be returned to a fully operational and roadworthy condition. That motion was made by Mayor Pro-Tem Jason Watts, seconded by Gary Brown, and approved by the council.
Routine business included approval of the June 23, 2025 meeting minutes and acceptance of the June 2025 financial reports; both motions passed. The minutes list a Mayor’s report, staff report and public comment but indicate no formal actions were taken on those items. Mayor Ford adjourned the meeting at 8:25 p.m.
