The Henniker Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to authorize the purchase of a Dominion ImageCast Precinct 2 ballot-counting device and to sign a required letter confirming the town's authorization.
Debbie, who requested the board's action, told the board the money for the machine was already appropriated in the town budget and that either minutes from a town meeting specifying the ImageCast machine or a signed letter from the selectmen would satisfy New Hampshire state purchasing requirements. She told the board the current AccuVote machine will be retired and the ImageCast unit is ready for purchase pending the board's signatures.
The item was presented as a procedural request to permit the town clerk (Debbie) to take ownership of the new tabulator. The board confirmed receipt of the physical letter and agreed that an official motion and vote were required. Selectman Martin moved the motion, it was seconded, and the board approved the authorization and signatures by a recorded voice vote (motion carries, 3-0).
With the vote complete, the town will sign the confirmation letter to the vendor and facilitate the purchase and delivery. The board did not specify an exact delivery date during the meeting.
The selectmen also noted the AccuVote will be retired and will not remain as primary equipment; the town did not indicate whether the AccuVote will be retained as a backup or disposed of beyond saying "it's going away."
