Lake Park clerk: Lowndes County asked Army Corps to include local debris pickup; medians will be cleared by city crew

City Clerk Lisa Johnson told the Lake Park City Council on Oct. 21 that Lowndes County had submitted a request asking the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to include Lowndes County and its cities in a debris-pickup project. Johnson said the request has been submitted but has not yet received approval; she did not expect significant disruption to the cleanup process if approved.
Council Member Busby Courson asked who would pick up tin and construction debris that is sitting in medians. Mayor Jena Sandlin said residents needing to dispose of tin or construction waste should take it to the landfill, and that the city’s maintenance crew will pick up debris that is located in medians.
The update is a coordination step between county and city officials to secure federal assistance for post-storm debris removal; the county submitted the request on behalf of the county and its municipalities.
