County presents GIS-linked vacant-property inventory; staff propose workshop to prioritize parcels

Assistant County Administrator (S5) presented a newly assembled, GIS-linked spreadsheet and interactive map of county-owned vacant parcels. Staff said they began with several hundred candidate parcels, then reviewed deeds and mapping to exclude parcels with deed restrictions, rights-of-way, wetlands or other encumbrances. After review, staff said only a small number of parcels—approximately six excluding one industrial parcel already planned for reuse—appear to be practical candidates for disposal or partnership development.
S5 demonstrated the clickable map and explained that each parcel entry includes a TMS/PIN, acreage and a plain-English description. He said some highlighted parcels are already associated with planned uses (e.g., parcels purchased for a potential law enforcement center and a site near a fire station) and others are suitable for possible affordable-housing partnerships; staff noted existing conversations with Habitat for Humanity and a local housing trust regarding potential MOUs.
S5 proposed a focused workshop to review the shortlist and identify partners and next steps. Commissioners agreed and asked staff to schedule a follow-up workshop in the coming weeks; staff will email the interactive map and materials for review prior to the workshop.
