Beaufort County facilities director cites energy, water savings and dozens of completed projects

Stronchek said the department has completed roughly 60 capital projects and thousands of annual work orders while implementing HVAC replacements and LED retrofits that he said yielded approximately $196,000 in savings and are projected to scale to about $1 million a year over several years.
Stronchek described tangible project examples — library repairs to eliminate leaks and tripping hazards, detention-center plumbing and carpet replacements, courthouse chiller and HVAC replacements — and said investment in leak detection and remediation identified large losses of water that the department has begun to fix. He estimated an approximate 4–5 year return on investment for the recent energy and water-efficiency measures after combining rebates, grants and energy savings.
Commissioners asked for clarification on the ROI timing; Stronchek reiterated a staged savings approach with incremental milestones in 2025–2027 tied to grant and rebate realization. Staff said new software and the recent hire of a project manager should increase project throughput and asset tracking.
Next steps: continue implementation of the CIP dashboard, complete energy audits and proceed with scheduled projects in the facilities plan.
