Poseyville council adopts Farmington Ridge annexation; approves building commission rules

The Poseyville Town Council on April 14 unanimously approved Ordinance No. 2026-03-10-02, completing second and final reading to annex the Farmington Ridge subdivision into town limits.
Council President Justin Rutledge called for the vote after discussion; Randall Rankin moved to pass the ordinance and Mike Baehl seconded. The roll-call vote was recorded as Justin Rutledge (yes), Mike Baehl (yes) and Randy Rankin (yes). Clerk-Treasurer Jodie Rankin said she will send a Notice of Adoption to the newspaper to run April 21, 2026, which begins the 30-day objection period required before the annexation becomes final.
In the same meeting the council considered Ordinance No. 2026-04-14-01, which adopts the rules, regulations and authority of the Posey County Building Commission within the town’s incorporated limits. Clerk-Treasurer Jodie Rankin presented the ordinance and Town Attorney William Bender reviewed and approved its language. The council passed the ordinance on first reading, voted to suspend the second-reading rule, and then passed it on second reading by roll call (all in favor). Rutledge said the town will follow with an interlocal agreement to formalize the Commission’s authority under the ordinance.
Both ordinance actions were recorded by roll call; the council took no further action on related implementation matters at the April meeting. The council also received public comment from an HVG representative for Farmington Ridge asking the town to consider mailbox placement and a subdivision sign at the new development; the council asked for exact, on-site markings of proposed locations and Farrar, the town’s utility superintendent, said all installations must remain at least two feet from utilities. The council will revisit those requests at its May meeting.
The council scheduled its next regular meeting for May 12, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.
