Town of Gay council adopts new agenda format, reviews building inspection options and accepts financials

The Town of Gay council approved a revised agenda format and several routine actions during its Aug. 12 meeting.
Council member Watts proposed consolidating minutes into a single “Consent Agenda” (Item 5) to be approved with one motion unless pulled for discussion, and placing the meeting’s discussion items in a separate agenda section (Item 6). Watts moved to approve the revised agenda and the council voted unanimously to adopt it; the consent agenda was also approved by motion and unanimous vote.
Mayor Christopher J. Walker reported he had spoken with Casandra Sharpe, director of Meriwether County Planning and Zoning, and distributed sample intergovernmental agreements and a county fee schedule for possible use if Gay pursues county-provided building inspection services. The council noted a recently signed law changes how construction values are determined and said it will consider whether an intergovernmental agreement with Meriwether County would be beneficial.
Financial statements were presented with no changes; Council member Watts moved to accept them, Keith seconded and the motion was approved unanimously. With no further business, Watts moved to adjourn at 8:00 p.m.; Keith seconded and the meeting ended by unanimous vote.
