Council discusses Zoning and Land Use Ordinance updates, schedules follow-up work session

Mayor Christopher J. Walker called a work session to order at 6:00 p.m. Thursday to discuss recommended and legally required changes to the city’s Zoning and Land Use Ordinance.
Council member Keith moved to approve the meeting agenda; Council member Askvig seconded, and the council voted unanimously to approve the agenda. After the Pledge of Allegiance the council began a substantive review of ordinance changes that staff and the city attorney had outlined during a July 23 work session.
Council member Watts said he hopes to have all edits recorded in advance of a return meeting with the attorney so the documents will be ready for presentation at a public hearing. The council agreed to hold a follow-up work session on Aug. 22, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. to complete that work.
With no further business, Council member Askvig moved to adjourn the meeting at 8:00 p.m.; Council member Pritchett seconded and the vote to adjourn was unanimous. Clerk Sharon Richmond’s signature appears on the meeting minutes.
No formal motion or vote on amendments to the Zoning and Land Use Ordinance was recorded at this session; the council’s next step is the Aug. 22 work session to finalize documents with the city attorney and prepare for a public hearing.
