GILLSVILLE, Ga. — The Gillsville Town Council unanimously approved a $15,000 allocation on May 12 for a Veterans Memorial at Town Park, and Mayor Wade Dale announced a personnel change in the town finance office.
During discussion of park improvements, Mayor Wade Dale outlined plans for a Veterans Memorial that will include three 15-foot flagpoles and a granite plaque to honor veterans. The mayor said he spoke with Austin Houston about the plaque and will seek an estimate for concrete work from Monkey Concrete. Council member Zack Dale volunteered to perform grading for the site, and several council members discussed lighting to illuminate the flags and provide ambient site lighting.
Council Member Kody Rylee moved to approve $15,000 for the Veterans Memorial Project; Todd Dale seconded the motion and all council members present voted in favor. The transcript records the motion and unanimous vote.
Separately, Mayor Dale announced that Sandra Helton will take the place of Misty Perry as finance clerk effective in May. The transcript records the mayor’s statement but does not record a council vote on that personnel change.
The council adjourned at 7:43 p.m. following the votes and announcements. Next steps for the memorial include obtaining concrete and plaque estimates and scheduling site work.
