White City Council approves truck purchase, moves matured CD into Georgia One Fund

The White City Council voted unanimously Nov. 24 to buy a 2026 Chevy Silverado for the Public Works Department and to authorize Mayor Curtis Powell to sign an online resolution to move a matured certificate of deposit into the Georgia One Fund.
Mayor Curtis Powell called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and presented three vendor quotes from Shawn Chastain, the city’s Public Works director, for a replacement truck. Councilmember Stephanie Nichelson moved to purchase the 2026 Chevy Silverado at a price of $74,518.50, using funds from the city’s 2020 SPLOST (special purpose local option sales tax). Councilmember Karissa Noland seconded the motion, which carried 5-0.
In a separate action, Powell told the council that a recently matured CD at First Bank needed a new deposit vehicle and that the previously approved Wells Fargo savings account was not suitable for government entities. He recommended using the Georgia One Fund administered by the State Treasury Office and asked the council to permit him to sign the required online resolution. Councilmember Jean Swank moved to allow the mayor to sign the online resolution; Councilmember Stephanie Nichelson seconded. The motion passed 5-0.
Powell also announced that City Hall would close at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 26. Councilmember Nichelson moved to adjourn; Councilmember Noland seconded and the meeting adjourned at 6:12 p.m.
