Whigham council asks city attorney to review how excess SPLOST funds may be spent

Mayor Pro Tem Jim Sellers asked the council to consider options for using extra SPLOST funds so the city would not have to return the difference to the county. Sellers specifically asked whether SPLOST 2020 could be combined with the new SPLOST and whether excess funds could be applied to City Hall.
City Clerk Rachel Jenson said the city attorney is reviewing the SPLOST verbiage to determine allowable uses and will report back at the next council meeting. Jenson noted that the SPLOST 2020 program ends in April 2026.
The council did not take formal action on the matter during this meeting; the clerk said the attorney would provide guidance on allowable expenditures at a future meeting.
