Police chief reports monthly activity; public works clarifies lead/copper compliance and water shutoff policy

At the Jan. 5, 2026 White City Council meeting Police Chief Brad Loyd gave a departmental activity report and presented vehicle procurement information. Public Works Superintendent Shawn Chastain reported that crews repaired five leaks last month and clarified that the lead/copper notification and inspection work required of local governments carries a three-year compliance window to identify pipe materials. "This project had absolutely nothing to do with PFAS," Chastain said, emphasizing the distinction between lead/copper compliance and contaminant testing.
City Clerk Robin Cochran briefed the council on delinquent water accounts and a new policy: accounts more than one month past due are subject to shutoff, and customers who resolve accounts after 3 p.m. will have service restored the following day. Mayor Curtis Powell added the city does not cut off water on Fridays.
