WHIGHAM, Ga. — The Whigham City Council on Nov. 18 heard concerns about traffic safety on Depot Street near the Dollar General store and discussed the possibility of converting the roadway back to one way.
Councilman Andrew Walden reported complaints about dangers on Depot Street, saying there had been several near misses. Police Chief Tony Black told the Council the incidents included near misses though not many wrecks had been reported, and he agreed that reverting the street to one way would likely be safer.
Mayor Trey Gainous asked City Clerk Rachel Jenson to confer with the city attorney to determine the legal and procedural steps required to change the traffic pattern; the item was set for future discussion at the next meeting. No formal traffic ordinance or immediate change was enacted at the Nov. 18 session.
