DDA says sewer funding is urgent after meeting with Senator Warnock’s staff

WHIGHAM, Ga. — The Downtown Development Authority told the Whigham City Council on Nov. 18 that securing full funding for sewer improvements is an urgent priority after representatives from Senator Warnock’s office met with local leaders.
Mayor Pro Tem Jim Sellers said Brenda Williams and Adrian Rivers, staff from Senator Warnock’s office, attended a recent meeting with local representatives and that presenter Nick Farrell ‘‘highlighted good points in Whigham while also addressing the urgent need for sewer.’’ Sellers said the central question from the presentation was, "How can we get the full funds needed to complete the sewer project?" and that the group was advised to pursue every funding avenue for which it is eligible, including opportunities from other federal representatives.
Sellers told the Council that Nick Farrell was prepared to complete the necessary applications. No funding commitments, dollar amounts or timelines were provided at the Nov. 18 meeting. The Council did not take formal action on the sewer project during the session.
The DDA update was presented as part of routine council reports and the Council asked staff and volunteers to continue coordinating grant and application efforts.
