Gray staff schedule Glover Lane generator preconstruction meeting; city explores PFAS testing

City Superintendent Cheyenne Morgan reported May 19 that a preconstruction meeting for the Glover Lane permanent generator project will be held May 22, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. in the City Hall conference room.
Morgan and wastewater treatment plant operator Jason Farmer attended the Georgia Rural Water Association (GRWA) conference, the superintendent reported. In separate remarks, City Attorney John D. Newberry said a law firm has contacted him about the city’s potential interest in a PFAS class-action matter. Newberry said the firm will perform independent pre-treated testing at the city’s well sites to determine whether the city qualifies to join the suit and that the city would need to enter an agreement with the firm to proceed; Newberry said he will gather additional information for the mayor and council.
No formal decision to join any litigation was recorded at the May 19 meeting; staff follow-up and additional information from the attorney are expected to be presented to the council before any commitment is made.
