Gray reports $1.30 million in 2024 taxes collected; council to consider abatements

Gray’s Mayor and Council received a financial update May 19 noting that the city had collected $1,301,801.25 in 2024 taxes as of May 19, 2025, representing 99.75% of billed amounts and leaving $7,404.35 unpaid, Assistant City Clerk Kayleigh Faircloth said.
Faircloth asked the council to approve abatements for several tax bills tied to businesses that she said are closed. The items and amounts Faircloth listed were: Laura Baxter (p1 15197) — $53.94; Gray Stables (p1 18954) — $118.53; and Express Imaging, LLC (p1 15829) — $191.63. Faircloth said the abatements will be placed on the council’s June agenda for formal consideration.
The relatively small unpaid balance means any abatements would be limited in fiscal impact, the clerk’s summary showed. The council did not record a formal vote on abatements at the May 19 meeting; placement on the June agenda will allow members to act after review.
