Bolton Fire Commission approves 2024 meeting schedule; reviews calls, budget items and completed SOGs

The Bolton Fire Commission unanimously approved a 2024 schedule of regular meeting dates and handled routine business at its Nov. 27 meeting.
Commissioners first approved the Oct. 23, 2023 meeting minutes on a motion by Commissioner Danny Moquin, seconded by Commissioner Robert Langton, carried by unanimous voice vote. Commissioner Chris Moquin moved to add the proposed 2024 schedule to the night’s agenda; Commissioner Danny Moquin seconded, and the motion passed by unanimous voice vote. A follow-up motion to approve the attached 2024 schedule likewise passed unanimously.
Chief Bruce Dixon told commissioners the department answered 41 calls in the past month and 519 calls year to date and described a successful CPR call earlier in the day. Budget discussion included a suggestion from Commissioner Chris Moquin to increase the Proficiency Fund line item; Commissioner Robert Langton noted that the chief’s salary and two potential part‑time positions should be added to payroll estimates for 2024–2025.
Commissioner Elizabeth Malone reported that Standard Operating Guidelines were completed by a committee consisting of Malone, Pete Morra, Mike Eremita and Pam Parsons after weekly meetings over roughly one and a half years. The minutes also show the Selectmen agreed to donate Truck 334 (about 30 years old) to ECFS in exchange for a number of fire curriculum classes for Bolton members. The department reported that Tanker 234 and ET 334 provided mutual aid at a recent structure fire in Hebron.
Deputy Fire Marshal Bill Call presented departmental activities and inspections since the last meeting, including a fire drill at Bolton Center School, updated ESO inspections, attendance at CRFMA in Plainville, four senior Knox Box installations, fire prevention presentations at Bolton Center School and the Montessori school, apartment inspections preparation, and inspections related to tank removal/installation at the Shell station, a burn permit inspection, an illegal burn investigation, and an inspection at Dollar General.
The commission confirmed its next meeting for Dec. 11, 2023, and adjourned at 8:10 p.m. on a motion by Chairman John Morianos, seconded by Robert Langton; the motion carried by unanimous voice vote.
