Maple Valley wins $1.8 million grant for Lake Wilderness roundabout; staff give multiple project updates

City Manager Laura Philpot told the council on Oct. 14 that the city has been awarded a $1.8 million grant to construct a compact roundabout at the entrance to Lake Wilderness, the Arboretum and Gafney's Gove.
Philpot also reported that city staff recently attended a TSD Housing Committee meeting and that police chief interviews were conducted earlier in the day. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for Witte Road was scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 24.
Public Works and Community Development Director Tawni Dalziel provided an update on right-of-way matters related to Tahoma Way, describing next steps in property and permitting work. Parks & Recreation Director and Assistant City Manager Dave Johnson said the Henry’s Switch project survey has closed and staff are reviewing the responses. Philpot also summarized the 'Out of the Darkness' event, noting more than 70 attendees and positive feedback; staff are already planning the next year’s event.
What comes next: staff will move forward with grant implementation steps for the roundabout and follow up on right-of-way, parks and personnel items through the City Manager's office and relevant departments. No additional council actions related to these updates were recorded at the Oct. 14 meeting.
