Thomaston DDA proposes Main Street Leadership Board, asks members to identify 'Transformation Strategies'

Taylor Smith, Economic Development Director for the City of Thomaston, presented a proposal for a Main Street Leadership Board at the Downtown Development Authority meeting on Jan. 15, saying the board would focus on community events, promotions and supporting downtown small businesses.
"Chairwoman Baity suggested that there be an odd number of members," Smith said, and Ivy Jacques recommended hosting a "Lunch & Learn" to inform prospective members about roles and responsibilities. Jacques also suggested that each board member propose three candidates for the new board. Smith said he would "share this feedback with Mrs. McKleroy, with hopes of finalizing the board by April/May."
In a related item, Smith introduced the 2026 Main Street workplan and asked board members to identify three "Transformation Strategies" for 2026 by the next meeting so that staff could assign specific goals, tasks, budgets and responsibilities. The workplan was presented alongside the 2025 plan for reference.
Board members discussed candidate recruitment and outreach logistics but did not take a formal vote to create the leadership board at the Jan. 15 meeting; Smith described this session as a preliminary step in the process.
