Mayor Terry Carter updated the City Commission on Oct. 13 about steps the city is taking to regain compliance with land-and-soil requirements tied to a grant. Carter said city staff have identified the parcel they would substitute at Alewine Park — specifically carving out the Training Center and the area used by the Fire Department — and submitted that outline to the State Department, which in turn has forwarded it to the federal level for review.
Carter said the federal agency must first approve the rough outline before the city can commission a formal boundary survey. Only after that approval and a completed survey will the commission be in a position to pursue a formal property swap and then submit the grant application that depends on the substitution.
The update was presented as an informational staff/leader report; no vote or formal action was recorded on this matter at the Oct. 13 meeting. The mayor indicated the substitution is a prerequisite to applying for the grant and that additional steps will return to the commission when federal approval and a survey are complete.
