Hamilton council approves minutes, denies rezoning request and amends budget in unanimous votes

The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and an invocation before council took up approval of the Aug. 12 minutes. Councilor William Fields moved to approve the minutes as written; Mayor Patrick Whearley seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
On a rezoning request from Miche Layman to change a residence from R1 to R2 to operate a group home, Mayor Pro Tem Alvin Howard moved to accept the planning and zoning committee’s denial. Councilor Nancy Wall seconded; the council voted unanimously to keep the property zoned R1 and deny the rezoning.
Rhett Wade requested a $12,120 budget amendment to purchase new computer software: $5,520 toward annual licensing and $6,600 for migration and configuration services. Councilor Nancy Wall moved to amend the budget; Councilor William Fields seconded. The council voted unanimously to approve the amendment.
On the city’s mileage (tax) rate, Mayor Whearley said the prior meeting produced a 2–1 vote not to accept a rollback and noted the charter requires a council majority for such action. He moved to retain the existing mileage rate; Councilor Fields seconded and the motion was approved unanimously.
Councilor Fields moved to adjourn at the close of business; Mayor Pro Tem Alvin Howard seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
