Union City approves $5,000 stormwater pipe repair for Municipal Lot No. 1

Councilor James Kerns moved to approve Mansfield’s bid with the borough providing the pipe and fittings, and Councilor Steadman seconded the motion. Councilors Cross, Winkler, Osborn, Steadman and Kerns voted to approve the work; the motion carried unanimously.
Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips told the council the borough had placed dye in a storm drain near Hogan’s Alley and found the dye entering sanitary lines that run to Municipal Lot No. 1. Phillips said the borough is arranging camera inspections to trace the line and recommended repair work targeted at the sinkhole. Two quotes were reviewed: McLallen Construction at $6,800 and Mansfield at $5,000. The borough will provide pipe and fittings at an estimated additional cost of $5,000.
The work approved covers installation, repair and reconnection of pipes at the sinkhole; council’s motion conditions the contractor work on the absence of other problems. The council did not identify a timeline for completion during the meeting.
