At its June 16 meeting, the Duchesne County Library Board discussed a proposed revision to the Room Reservation Policy that would require hosts of public events to post notice on the library bulletin board prior to an event and to place a sign outside the room during the event.
Director Daniel Mauchley presented the proposal, saying the draft requires publicity three days before an event and a sign at the door during the event; the draft would reclassify bookings that fail to meet the publicity requirements as private events subject to room rent. Board members reacted by recommending that the required posting period be extended from three days to one week to give the public more advance notice.
The board framed the change as a way to balance open access to library space with the library’s need to ensure the public has reasonable notice of events. No formal vote on the policy change was recorded at the meeting; the item will remain under review and return for further consideration at a future meeting.
