Council selects Mandy Neese as Hogansville Mayor Pro-Tem after 3–2 vote; Jason Baswell sworn in

At its Jan. 6 meeting the Hogansville City Council sworn in interim Council Member Jason Baswell and voted 3–2 to select Council Member Mandy Neese as Mayor Pro-Tem. The board also approved routine resolutions and a line of credit.
Mayor Jake Ayers called the Hogansville City Council to order at 7:00 p.m. on Jan. 6, 2025, and City Attorney Alex Dixon administered the oath of office to Jason Baswell, who was sworn in to fill Council Post 2 on an interim basis.
Less than an hour later councilmembers nominated and voted on a Mayor Pro-Tem. Council Member Mark Ayers nominated Council Member Mandy Neese; Council Member Kandis Strickland nominated Council Member Michael Taylor. The show-of-hands vote split 3–2. "Council Member Neese is selected as Mayor Pro-Tem with a 3/2 vote," the clerk recorded following the roll; Neese received votes from Mark Ayers, Jason Baswell and Neese herself, while Taylor and Strickland voted for Taylor.
The selection took place amid a consent-approved agenda that included routine resolutions and financial items. Several councilmembers expressed no public discussion before the vote and the board moved quickly to other business. The outcome changes the council's formal next-in-command for 2025, giving Neese the duties customarily assigned to the mayor pro-tem when the mayor is absent.
The council adjourned the meeting at 8:12 p.m. after an executive session under the litigation exemption. No public actions were recorded from that executive session.
