Advisory board discusses vacancies and reviving youth delegate role

At the April 15 meeting, Vice Chair Debby Hill reported two current vacancies on the Animal Services Advisory Board: a Town of Chapel Hill seat and the Owner/Manager (Retail Pet Services) position. Hill said board member Dawn Roberts will leave a non-municipal seat at the end of June. Hill said that Ellen Pearsall and Dr. Brady will be voted on at the next meeting.
Hill asked that the board revisit 2026 goals at the May meeting after the planned fundraiser and after staff have time to review proposed policy edits. She proposed reactivating earlier work on a youth-delegate position; the draft policy was circulated in early 2025 and had been reviewed by the County Attorney at one point. Hill said the youth role would be nonvoting. Chair Allan Polak raised whether adding the role to the bylaws would create an additional vacancy; Hill clarified it would not change the vacancy status because the youth position would be nonvoting.
The board did not take formal action on appointments at this meeting; Ellen Pearsall and Dr. Brady were named as candidates to be voted on at the May meeting.
