Orange County Animal Services reports higher clinic demand, large Chewy donation and upcoming fundraiser

At the April 15 advisory-board meeting, Elizabeth Overcash, Director of Orange County Animal Services, reported current shelter and clinic activity and outlined recent donations and outreach plans.
Overcash gave the board a snapshot of intake and foster-care numbers: 36 dogs and 15 cats are currently at the shelter, and 39 dogs and 33 cats are in foster care. She said last year the county clinic saw 122 animals; so far in 2026 the clinic has seen more than 300 animals, which she said has put the program on a strong track this year but could pose capacity challenges in the future.
Overcash credited an ASPCA grant and client payments at discounted rates for the clinic’s current self-sufficiency. She reported that 26–27 pallets of donations arrived from Chewy, and that staff plan to organize food distribution through Porch and other local pantries; food packaging includes a sticker with a QR code for resources.
The board was asked to share information about a silent auction fundraiser scheduled for May 3. Cathy Munnier asked whether Tara May could send a media release; Overcash said she would follow up and Mary Lucas offered to connect the director with WHUP radio for outreach.
Staff updates included an introduction from Business Officer Christina Allen, who started March 23 and described her public-health and medical-billing background as she begins front-desk and billing duties.
Overcash signaled gratitude for community support and volunteers while noting the need to monitor clinic capacity if demand continues to rise.
