Hull council approves extra shipping for holiday lights, sends letter to county about building inspections and receives audit update

At its Feb. 26 meeting the City of Hull Mayor and Council approved several administrative items including payment of additional shipping charges for recently delivered Christmas lights and authorization for a letter to the County about building inspection services.

Mayor John Barber told the council the invoice for the new Christmas lights included about $500 in shipping charges that had not been included in the previously approved amount. Councilmember Paige Phillips moved to pay the additional charges, Councilmember Yvonne Davenport seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

City Attorney Danny Love presented a draft letter to the County advising that Hull has its own building inspector and will not be using the County inspector; the council unanimously approved sending the letter with any edits the attorney deems appropriate. The motion to send the letter was moved by Paige Phillips and seconded by Mike McElroy.

City Clerk Sandra Pou reported the 2024 audit should be completed before the next council meeting and that work on the 2025 audit was expected to begin in late March; the 2025 audit will be due by June 30. Councilmember Yvonne Davenport said she expected to attend the Small Cities conference in May and was asked to provide the information to the Clerk.

The council was also advised that a license plate reader is being placed on Old Elberton Road near the train tracks at the request of the Sheriff's Department. The meeting was adjourned following a motion by Mike McElroy and a second by Steven Hollingsworth.

No votes in this meeting were recorded as failing or amended; all motions reported in the minutes passed unanimously.
