Hull council approves $1,368 contribution to Hull Baptist Church for track lighting

The City of Hull Mayor and Council unanimously voted Feb. 26 to contribute $1,368 to Hull Baptist Church to cover the monthly service cost for four new lights at the community track, pavilion and playground.
Charles Dooley and Don Tyson of Hull Baptist Church told the council the church would supply poles and fixtures at no cost and that the monthly service would be $28.50 per light. Council members agreed the lights should be placed in the church’s name because the equipment is on church property.
After discussion, Councilmember Mike McElroy moved to contribute $1,368 to the church and Councilmember Yvonne Davenport seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. The council directed City Attorney Danny Love to prepare a clean copy of the draft resolution for signature by Mayor John Barber and Clerk Sandra Pou once the lights are installed and operational.
The approved contribution is a lump-sum payment to the church rather than a monthly reimbursement, per the council’s motion. The council did not approve any additional city-funded maintenance or equipment costs at the meeting.
The resolution will be prepared and presented for signature; the council did not set additional follow-up deadlines at the meeting.
