The New Albany City Council adopted Resolution ROE‑2026 on March 17 to renew the placement of farmland owned by Intel — located south of the city’s data center area — in an agricultural district for real-estate taxation purposes.
City staff explained this designation is not a zoning change but a tax classification available to property being actively farmed; when used it may enable a CAUV (Current Agricultural Use Valuation) tax status that temporarily reduces taxable value so long as the property remains in agricultural use. Staff said the designation had expired after annexation and that renewing the application would permit continued agricultural tax treatment while the ground is farmed, with any tax differentials to be reconciled if the land ceases farming.
The council opened and closed the public hearing with no public comment and then moved to adopt the resolution. The adoption passed on a 5‑yes vote.
City staff noted the council’s action affects taxation status only and does not change zoning or permitted land uses.
