Board hears symposium notes on AI/data centers; staff to produce web resources, consider guest briefing

A board member who attended an Otterbein symposium on AI and environmental resources urged the Sustainability Advisory Board to consider the local implications of rapidly expanding AI/data‑center work, including water demand, groundwater concerns, noise and unregulated perceptions. Members emphasized the need for consistent, fact‑based public messaging.

Staff said the city is preparing a dedicated web page—modeled on a recently developed Intel page—to provide factual resources and context for residents and offered to arrange a guest speaker or panel to brief the board. "We are actually working on a web page for the city's website... where we put a bunch of information out there for people to be able to go and see the facts," a staff member said during the meeting.

Members suggested inviting speakers who take a systems view (one attendee recommended a Morpsey representative) and sharing symposium notes within the advisory group so the board can be aligned in community outreach. Concerns discussed include potential groundwater stress in some regions, the use of on‑site generation, and the need for noise and air monitoring; staff said city regulators and permit conditions cover some concerns but that additional community education is useful.

Next steps: staff will compile materials for a web page, collect symposium notes from attendees, and explore scheduling a presentation to the board. The web page and any presentation would be used to provide clear, locally relevant facts to residents and to guide board recommendations.
