Park board approves resolution limiting its additional financial commitment to Festival Park and plans community outreach for phase two

At the Hobart City Redevelopment Authority meeting on March 9, 2026, Ms. Clemens presented Resolution No. 2026-01, which divides the Festival Park project into two phases and states that the Park Board will not contribute funds beyond the board's originally approved bond.
Ms. Clemens said the plan is to request that the city council fund the second phase using designated Amazon funds at the council's April 14 meeting and described planned community outreach, including a public meeting and an online survey to gather input on amenities. She said the current scope of the second phase is approximately $12 million but noted grant opportunities could reduce local costs. "We don't want to pay more than what was approved for our portion of the park," Ms. Clemens said, urging the board to sign off on the resolution to preserve the board's budget limit and ensure correct process.
Commissioners moved to approve Resolution No. 2026-01. The motion (moved by Mr. Schultz, seconded by Ms. Grabczak) passed unanimously (all aye, motion carried).
Ms. Clemens said the project timeline will remain unchanged and that the contract for the next phase will be brought to the board for review when it is ready. The board did not adopt specific design changes at this meeting; outreach and grant-seeking were described as next steps.
