The Hobart Board of Public Works and Safety voted unanimously on May 6 to adopt Resolution 2026-02, authorizing repairs and replacement work on the city salt dome. City Attorney McCarthy told the board the dome’s roof requires specialized work because of the intricate triangular configuration of its panels; for that reason, the city is using a single-source procurement and plans to contract with the company that originally built the dome.
Mayor Huddlestun moved approval of the resolution; Ms. Galka seconded the motion and the board voted 3–0 to pass Resolution 2026-02. Attorney McCarthy explained the single-source approach is based on the dome’s unique construction and the need for contractor familiarity with the original details.
The board’s action authorizes staff to proceed with arranging the repairs through the identified single source. The meeting record indicates the board considered the procurement rationale and then approved the resolution without requesting additional bids at this time.
