Fort Recovery Council fills open seat, confirms 2026 appointments

The Village of Fort Recovery Council on Jan. 5 appointed Amy Wendel to an open council seat and approved the mayor’s slate of appointments for 2026.
Mayor Dave Kaup called the regular meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. and the council voted to appoint Shawn Thobe and Amy Wendel to two open seats; Amy Wendel was sworn in at the meeting and Shawn Thobe, who was absent, is scheduled to be sworn at the next council meeting.
The council then approved a series of mayoral appointments for the year, including members and alternates for the Income Tax Board (Pat Wendel and Deanna Knapke), a five-year Park Board appointment (Johan Niekamp), and representatives to the Zoning Board, Planning Commission and Design Review Board. Council members also confirmed members of the Tree Commission and standing council committee assignments for finance, research and police oversight.
Councilor Scott Pearson moved to approve the appointments and other slate items; the motions were seconded and the council recorded unanimous votes in favor.
The actions take effect immediately for those sworn and will be recorded in the village’s official minutes and appointment files. Shawn Thobe’s swearing-in will be completed at the next regular meeting.
