Franklin City Council rezones 1210 S. Dixie Highway to community commercial

The Franklin City Council on Dec. 17 adopted Ordinance 2018-23, rezoning approximately 0.3652 acres at 1210 S. Dixie Highway from R-3 (Central Residential) to C-2 (Community Commercial).
City Engineer Barry Conway told council that property owner Denise Lykins requested the change. Conway said the Planning Commission held a public hearing on Nov. 12 and voted 7–0 to recommend approval. Mayor Todd Hall opened the council’s public hearing and received no public comments before council took its vote.
Councilmember Denny Centers asked whether there are plans for the parcel; Mayor Hall said the owners want to sell and there are parties interested. Denny Centers then moved to adopt the ordinance; Paul Ruppert seconded. The ordinance passed on a unanimous recorded vote.
The rezoning clears the way for community-commercial uses on the small site along S. Dixie Highway; council did not specify any development plan at the Dec. 17 meeting.
The ordinance takes effect according to the city’s standard ordinance-adoption procedures. Council did not receive any petitions or written objections at the hearing.
