POLYTECH reports high adult-education enrollment, full ESL classes and equity priorities

At the Oct. 7, 2025 POLYTECH School District Board meeting, Dr. Elizabeth Jones reported enrollment and program updates for Adult Education and Family Literacy. According to the minutes, 1,536 students are enrolled across adult basic education, adult secondary education and career-technical (CTE) classes; GED and ESL classes were reported as full with the ESL program carrying a waiting list of more than 150 prospective students. Family Literacy programming is operating in Milford and Dover and was reported to be serving 66 families and over 90 children.
Dr. Jones described National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week activities and upcoming events, including a Central Delaware College Fair/Apprentice Career Fair on Oct. 22 and a Partner Appreciation Breakfast on Dec. 2. The report also noted career program specialists are conducting high school visits in surrounding districts and that the electrical trades remains the largest registered apprenticeship program.
Principal George Fisher summarized high school activities: the POLYTECH marching band performed at a University of Delaware event; students participated in National Construction Appreciation Week and regional masonry competitions; student groups coordinated a blood drive and took part in Vet Fest. Upcoming student-focused events and testing dates were listed in the minutes, including 8th Grade Visitation (Oct. 10), Launch Into Your Future Week (Oct. 13–17), Hispanic Heritage Dinner (Oct. 17), and Student Empowerment Summit (Oct. 18). The minutes also record that Project SEARCH continues to achieve a 100% acceptance rate for participating students seeking competitive employment after graduation.
Dr. McCove provided the Equity & Diversity Committee update: the committee's 2025–26 focus areas include CTE framework and curriculum development, technology, safety and security, and student connections. The board had no substantive debate recorded on these updates; they were presented as informational items during the meeting.
