Polytech reports adult education enrollment gains and 100% pass rate for Practical Nursing cohort

Dr. Elizabeth Jones told the board that the Summer Family Literacy Program continues, nearly 300 students have registered for Trade & Apprentice classes for the fall, several CTE graduates are now employed locally, and all 21 Practical Nursing graduates passed the NCLEX-PN exam.
At the Aug. 12 meeting Dr. Elizabeth Jones presented the adult education update, reporting program growth and student outcomes that the district said show strong workforce and post-secondary alignment.
Dr. Jones said the Summer Family Literacy Program offered age-appropriate literacy and activity components for preschool and school-age children. She reported two GED completions (Steven Singleton on July 16 and Aniyah Messick on July 2) and said returning Trade & Apprentice student registration has been ongoing, with close to 300 students having attended registration and enrolled for fall classes.
Dr. Jones highlighted several CTE student success stories: Leon Henry, an EMT graduate, is working at Holt Logistics; Aaron Young, a PSAM Aircraft Maintenance pre-apprentice graduate, is employed as a local aircraft maintenance technician; and Brandon Keller completed the DRWA apprenticeship program and is continuing a career as a water operator. She also reported that 21 out of 21 members of the Class of 2025 Practical Nursing cohort passed the NCLEX-PN exam.
Board members heard that administrators toured employer facilities to align curriculum and placement opportunities with local workforce needs. Dr. Kevin Dickerson noted visits to partner businesses including Eagle Group, Filec Services, DTI and Bayada, and additional site visits to Nickle Electric and Kent County Parks & Recreation were made by a smaller administrative team.
The board received the update; no formal action was required on these reports.
