Granby Commission on Aging approves March minutes, reviews programs and discusses elderly tax-abatement research

The Town of Granby Commission on Aging met April 13, 2026, at 10:05 a.m. Chairman Jean Donihee-Perron presided; a quorum was present. On a motion by Commissioner Maureen Eberly, seconded by Commissioner Ellen Thomson, the commission voted 4-0-1 to approve the minutes of March 9, 2026.
Director of Human Services Sandra Yost delivered the activities report. She said the St. Patrick’s Day luncheon drew 91 attendees and the AARP tax-assistance program completed 213 appointments during tax season. A new Barre exercise class started in March with 12 initial sign-ups, and the Mahjong group continues to grow. Yost reported that 16 people participated in a trip to Greece, producing $7,776.25 in commission revenue; the commission noted those funds help support the new lunch program. The Tulip Dinner is scheduled for May 15 at 5:00 p.m., with 96 people signed up; seniors have requested more bingo, which the commission plans to hold quarterly.
In the Chairman’s report, Donihee-Perron said term sheets for the Kearns project were sent to the town attorney and the town is awaiting the attorney’s review. She announced a COA durable medical equipment (DME) cleaning event set for April 20 at 1:00 p.m., a COA Coffee Hour on April 15 at 10:00 a.m., and a Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast on May 14 for which the commission had sent 40 invitations.
Under old business, Commissioners Judy Jones, Susan Hackett and Maureen Eberly reported meeting to explore options for expanding elderly tax-abatement assistance and noted materials from COACT could be useful for further work. Under new business, Commissioner Susan Hackett asked for volunteers for Community Day at Stony Hill on May 9, 2026.
On a motion by Commissioner Susan Hackett, seconded by Commissioner Ellen Thomson, the commission voted unanimously (5-0-0) to adjourn at 10:34 a.m. The minutes were signed as "Respectfully submitted" by Recording Secretary Vanessa Berrelli.
