The Indian Creek Local School District Board of Education met April 16 and unanimously approved several measures aimed at district policy, security and student activities.
At the meeting President Stephen Cowser and the four-member board voted 4-0 to adopt an Artificial Intelligence policy (EDEC), a step the superintendent recommended to guide use of AI tools in district operations and classrooms. The board also authorized a contract routed through OMERESA for CrowdStrike endpoint security software to bolster district cyberdefenses.
Separately, the treasurer presented and the board adopted a resolution authorizing a transfer of monies from the Bond Retirement Fund to a specified Permanent Improvement Fund to support capital work. The board approved the fiscal motion on a unanimous vote.
The board approved an ICHS band trip to Universal Studios in Florida in April 2027; the agenda lists an estimated cost of $2,500 per student and that exact travel dates are to be announced. The approvals were part of a single consent vote on new-business items A–E (motion #28-04-26), all passing 4-0.
The board’s consent action also included acceptance of the regular financial reports and payment of invoices presented by the treasurer. Specific invoices listed in the agenda included charges for helmet reconditioning, road salt, snow removal, vehicle tires and a fundraising purchase of laundry detergent; those vendor payments were included in the board’s authorization to pay bills.
The board took no additional public votes beyond the listed consent actions. Next procedural steps noted in the agenda included implementation of the adopted AI policy and final contracting formalities for the cybersecurity purchase.
