Residents ask Lake Park council for lighting and traffic controls after new stop signs; fall-festival barricade requested

At the start of the Nov. 4 Lake Park council meeting, residents raised traffic-safety concerns after new stop signs were installed on Long Pond Road and requested the council consider additional measures to improve visibility and child-safety at a nearby church festival.
Shannon Katerberg of 445 Long Pond Road told the council the community appreciated the new stop signs but that, because the installation is recent and the area lacks streetlights, drivers are having difficulty seeing them. She asked the council to consider installing streetlights, flashing warning lights, or "stop sign ahead" signage to increase visibility and safety. Mayor Pro Tem Busby Courson said the council would consider the feasibility of those suggestions.
Rick Kenningham, who identified an upcoming church fall festival on Nov. 21, 2025, asked for support in barricading some through streets between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. to protect children and families celebrating the event; Mayor Pro Tem Courson said the Public Works Supervisor would contact Mr. Kenningham to coordinate temporary street closures and safety measures. Resident Arthur Keckley also expressed appreciation for the new stop signs and supported requests for additional lighting or signage.
These items were recorded under citizens' concerns; council direction was limited to staff follow-up and feasibility review rather than any immediate funding appropriation. The clerk and Public Works were assigned to coordinate next steps and report back to the council as needed.
