Vernon Center hires seasonal worker, approves clerk notary; resident raises rezoning and debris complaint

The Vernon Center City Council approved hiring Fay Butson as seasonal help from June 10, 2025, through Sept. 1, 2025, at $15 per hour for 30 hours a week. The council also approved a motion to pay $120 to register City Clerk Kara Hansen as a notary for a five-year commission.
During public comments and a citizen-concern agenda item, resident Jeff Butson said he was unaware a neighboring property would be rezoned commercial and complained that debris left in the alley — including sheet metal screws and body bolts — had punctured four tires. "I had to replace all four tires because there were screws in them," Butson said. Mayor Dana Ziegler said he would review city ordinances to determine whether the property was in violation and directed Clerk Hansen to draft letters about weed violations and illegal burning for residents cited during the meeting.
The council also read a thank-you letter from former City Clerk Roelofs. The next regular meeting was scheduled for July 2, 2025.
