The Vernon Center City Council approved Pay Application No. 14 for the city road project, authorizing payment of $211,383.89 once bonding funds and reimbursement from Blue Earth County are received. Engineer Chris Knutson described the application as covering the final layer of paving and bringing the project close to completion.
The payment covers the final paving phase of the project; Knutson said a portion of the cost will be paid from Blue Earth County. The council also set a special meeting for Monday, June 23, at 8:00 a.m. to consider bidding for construction related to and decommissioning of a well tied to the project.
Public works supervisor Mark Willette reported several follow-up items for the contractor, including a leaking storm drain and a manhole that needed inspection; Knutson said the contractor would return to address punch-list items. Willette also reported dust-control materials had been scraped from Railroad Street and asked for the contractor to address centerline gravel removal.
The council directed staff and the engineer to finalize remaining punch-list items with USDA Rural Development and return to council for any remaining authorizations. The special meeting will allow the council to approve contract bidding and next steps ahead of final closeout.
