Smoke testing finds sewer faults near Main Street; Chrisney council authorizes SRF funding pursuit

John provided the council with the results of recent smoke testing on the town wastewater system, saying the tests identified faults in several areas and indicated some sections — including a stretch near the Baptist Church on Main Street — are standing full of water and not draining. He said parts of the line may need replacement and that Commonwealth is still completing manhole inspections to identify sources of inflow and infiltration.

John said he is working with Drew to determine whether the needed repairs would qualify for State Revolving Fund (SRF) funding and what steps the town must take to proceed. Council gave staff approval to move forward with the SRF application process.

Ben Cohoon presented procurement options to address sewer system failures: three quotes for manhole inserts (Sealing Systems, Inc. — $4,000; No Flow in Flow, LLC — $54.00 per insert with additional per-unit parts and no charge for a vent-hole drill; Industrial Odor Control — $9,536) and three quotes for sewer inspection cameras (Pollardwater — $11,269.95; Insight Vision — $12,338.00; DCD — $14,709.55). The council heard the pricing and authorized staff to pursue SRF eligibility and further inspection work; no replacement contracts were approved at the meeting.
