Chrisney council adopts 2026 budget ordinance; approves equipment repairs, payments and an appointment

The Town Council for the Town of Chrisney on Nov. 3 rescinded Ordinance #2025-9 and adopted Ordinance #2025-10, which sets appropriations and tax rates for the 2026 budget. The motion to rescind was made by Mason and seconded by Greg Deller; the motion to adopt Ordinance #2025-10 was made by Greg Deller and seconded by Mason. Motion carried; Councilmember Chris Anderson abstained from the budget vote because he serves on the fire department. Kim said she will submit the signed ordinance and completed budget forms to the Department of Local Government Finance.
The council approved several operational and financial items. John reported a $4,357.60 repair quote from Bergs Big Truck Shop to fix a town dump truck; motion to approve the repairs was made by Greg Deller and seconded by Mason and carried. John also reported OHMEGA billed the town $5,772.00 for work on the town generator and said the generator remains nonfunctional. The council voted to pay OHMEGA for the work (motion by Mason, seconded by Greg Deller) but asked staff to seek another vendor to complete repairs.
The council approved the appointment of Greg Deller to the Spencer County Economic Development Authority board at the request of county commissioners; Kristy Powell of the Spencer County Economic Development Authority was in attendance and noted the commissioners' request. Kim announced the town website is live at https://www.in.gov/towns/chrisney, and the council listed upcoming community events including the CVFD semi-annual fried chicken dinner (Nov. 8), Chrisney Elementary Chili Supper (Nov. 21) and Winter Fest (Dec. 6).
Council also approved routine financial reports for September 2025, including the fund report, bank statements, revenue detail, A/P registry summary and payroll/check register reports. With no further business the meeting was adjourned.
