Centerville police and fire departments report community programs, software changes and plan for surplus equipment

During the Nov. 10, 2025 Centerville meeting, the police and fire representatives provided operational updates and the council discussed how to handle surplus firefighting equipment. An agency official (police) described volunteer-supported food-box packing on Nov. 14, deliveries planned for Nov. 18 (with overflow Nov. 20) and a kids' shopping event on Dec. 13; the official asked for volunteer help and school coordination for the shopping event.
The police representative summarized October activity, reporting "a total of 63 calls, 41 that fell into our other category," and noted five investigations (two cleared without enforcement, three cleared with enforcement) and "a total of six...issued for a total of $116." The police also noted a planned migration to a state input program called JIRIS and a local recording upgrade to ESO at the fire station to improve recordkeeping and medical reporting.
Council members discussed disposition of surplus firefighting equipment (including a mobile scale unit that had been included in the budget). Options reviewed included offering other county fire departments the first right of refusal, gifting or trading equipment, or selling it via public or internet auction. A committee member said they would prepare a resolution authorizing a purchasing agent to manage the disposal process and to include alternative disposition paths; members also noted applicable publication and public-bid requirements for surplus property under state procedures. No final vote on disposal was recorded at the meeting.
The Fire Department announced a chicken noodle dinner on Nov. 15, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Fire Station 1 and reminded members of the work session on Nov. 25, 2025 at 7 p.m.
