Spring Grove wins $500,000 grant for downtown library; several park and feasibility grants reported

Spring Grove — The city reported several grant developments April 15, including a $500,000 award to support a new downtown library building on the former fire site.
Administrator Jana Elton told the council the Minnesota Multi‑Purpose Community Facility Projects Grant was awarded and will fund construction planning for a new library downtown. Elton also reported a $5,000 Compeer rural feasibility study award for rental studies, and that a DNR outdoor recreation grant application for Trollskogen Park (walking paths, ADA equipment, water fountain, disc golf) and a Taylor Family Farms application for disc golf remain under review.
Staff also submitted a MnDOT Community Roadside Landscape Partnership application to replace damaged trees and plant native species along Main Street. The SHIP 2025 application resulted in a bicycle rack and four benches to be installed at the basketball and tennis/pickleball courts.
No council action was required to accept the grants noted in the minutes; council acknowledged the award and pending applications and will oversee next steps through staff reports.
