Spring Grove explores options to reopen daycare; task force to meet April 17

Spring Grove — City officials and council members on April 15 discussed options to reopen the Spring Grove daycare facility and to support in‑home childcare providers.
Mayor Bryan Wilhelmson and Administrator Jana Elton explained possible paths including the city purchasing the daycare building and leasing it or creating a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to operate the program. Council Member Morgan Buckland said she wants the city to explore support for both the central daycare and smaller in‑home providers, noting the shortage of childcare across the state.
Elton said a Daycare Task Force will meet Thursday, April 17 to review all options and that any recommendations will return to the council at its May meeting. No formal action was taken April 15; the council asked staff and the task force to pursue financing, operations and governance options and to report back.
